The Stuttering Foundation
Stuttering affects millions of Americans to varying degrees. This organization is the leader in helping those with any level of disfluency.
As speech and language experts, we obviously see stuttering frequently. We have helped many people over the years, young and old, find a path to better speaking. The Stuttering Foundation is a terrific organization for anyone looking for resources to help with their stuttering.
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 204,000 members and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology support personnel; and students.
While this site is mostly for SLPs and professionals in speech and hearing, this site does provide a good resource for parents and teachers who need to find a professional in their area.
Stutter Talk
StutterTalk® is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to talking openly about stuttering. StutterTalk is the first and longest running podcast on stuttering. Since 2007 we have published more than 600 podcasts which are heard in 180 countries. (stuttertalk.com)
We believe you cannot have enough resources to help with disfluency/stuttering. People who suffer from stuttering can often feel alone and withdrawn from society. They only communicate when they absolutely have to.
This is a lonely way to live. But it doesn't have to be this way. Sites like StutterTalk can be an invaluable resource for people with mild to severe stuttering.
Visit the site today and check out the resources and podcasts. You will be glad you did!
American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders
Board Certified Specialists in Fluency are individuals who hold their Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and have demonstrated a high level of knowledge and clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating individuals with fluency disorders.
The American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders was the first clinical specialty program approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 1998. The idea of a specialty program was driven by the need to give consumers access to professionals with advanced knowledge and skills, and to educate and recognize expert clinicians.
The specialty program, initially known as the Specialty Board on Fluency Disorders, came into being through the efforts of both professionals and consumers. It was championed by ASHA’s Special Interest Division 4, Fluency and Fluency Disorders, with support from the National Stuttering Association and the Stuttering Foundation of America. Some of the key people involved included Eugene and Crystal Cooper, Hugo Gregory, Oliver Bloodstein, Glyndon and Jeanna Riley, and Dean Williams.
National Stuttering Association
NSA Family Programs supports young people who stutter by providing resources for the whole family and others in their support network. These family sections speak to the wide variety of ages and situations which families may encounter.
Treating stuttering is a staple of our business. We see children of all ages that have mild to severe cases of stuttering. Often times, our clients are very shy and withdrawn because they believe they are part of a very small group of people that have this problem.
The National Stuttering Association will show you that you are not alone if you suffer from stuttering. They have events, resources, and conferences you can attend. Visit this site today and see how they can help you.

International Dyslexia Association
Having a child diagnosed with dyslexia can be a traumatic experience. While dyslexia can make reading more difficult, with the right instruction, almost all individuals with dyslexia can learn to read.
Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. But some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.
In public school settings where many teachers are not knowledgeable about this condition, students with dyslexia may be considered stupid or lazy. Parents who have children diagnosed with dyslexia should seek out reading instruction that is based upon a systematic and explicit understanding of language structure, including phonics. This reading instruction goes by many names, Structured Literacy, Orton- Gillingham, Simultaneous Multisensory, Explicit Phonics, and others (See IDA’s fact sheet Effective Reading Instruction). If you think you or your child may be dyslexic, you can take IDA’s test which will evaluate the chance that you have this condition.
As speech language pathologists who specialize in reading and scholastic progress, we strongly recommend parents who have children that struggle to read to look at this website. If your child has dyslexia, please make an appointment with us...we can help.

Many times, schools and parents do not have a clear understanding of what we do and how we can help them. Most people have a cursory understanding of speech therapy, but they do not know everything we do or the education we are required to possess to do our job
ISHA helps parents and schools understand what education and schooling we are required to possess in order to practice in the state of Illinois. We encourage every partner and parent to briefly review this site before they choose a speech-language pathologist for their child or school.
Early Learning Programs
Early learning programs allow for young learners to get a headstart on school and enables them to excel when school starts.
Early childhood is a time to encourage a love of learning and school with engaging instruction that allows children to develop their natural curiosity. The sooner a child starts on their journey to learning, the more likely a child is to excel in school.
We love seeing children early, because it makes us more effective and diagnosing and treating children. We often recommend that parents and teachers embrace early learning programs like this one.
