Kristin Chmela, MA CCC-SLP, BRFS
Kristin Chmela, director of the Chmela Fluency Center, developed her philosophy of working with individuals who stutter based on the work of her mentors, Dr. Hugo Gregory, Carolyn Gregory, June Campbell, and Diane Hill from Northwestern University, all of whom stressed the importance of utilizing a multidimensional approach when assessing and treating individuals who stutter. She has dedicated her career to helping individuals who stutter as well as their families.
Kristin speaks extensively around the country and internationally, as well. She offers several options for presentations that appeal to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals. There are many established workshops and keynote presentations available, however, Kristin is happy to create new presentations based on individual needs. Her upcoming speaking engagements are posted along with others in news / events.
Kristin provides consultations with professionals, school districts, and organizations on different aspects of stuttering and on specific cases. In addition, Kristin works with professionals in medical organizations, as well as corporations, by providing general communication counseling, to improve skills such as public speaking and listening effectively. Kristin has also participated in the development of many publications and products to educate professionals, as well as parents.
